Brief details about the big LED matrix sign we were kindly donated.

Comms

It claims to talk RS232 and RS485. There are mixed messages from the docs whether it's TTL level or not.

Upon further inspection it looks like the MAX232 chip might be fried. We got it working by tacking wires to the TTL side of the chip. You can use these at 5v TTL level as a serial port, at 9600 8n1.
