Please note We are on Hospital Fields Road. There is no way of getting to the Hackspace from Ambrose Street, whether or not Google Maps believes it is possible.

Visiting

We have an open night every Wednesday Evening from 8pm, anybody is welcome to come and visit. If you wish to come visit it is generally a good idea to let us know on the mailing list or via twitter, although it is certainly not required. On the rare occasion that there are less than three people coming, we will usually cancel the meeting. We’ll post via the group and send out a tweet to let people know if this happens.

If you are unable to visit on Wednesday evenings but still want to see the hackspace and get involved, drop us a message on the mailing list or via twitter - often another member will be available to show you around.

Paying members can receive keys and have 24/7 access.

Getting Here

York Hackspace is conveniently located just slightly south of York City Centre, and is easily accessible by cycling, on foot, by public transport, and by car from within York as well as many outlying villages and towns.

Walking

The Hackspace can be accessed from either Fulford Road (opposite the barracks), or via Millennium Bridge from South Bank. From town, the fastest way is via either river side. We are around 20 minutes walk from the centre of York and 30 from the Rail Station, about 20 minutes walk from the University of York (walk through Walmgate Stray and the barracks, or via either Broadway or Heslington Road), and a couple of minutes from Millennium Bridge. All these paths with the exception of Walmgate Stray are well lit at night.

Buses

The hackspace is conveniently located near to the main A19 bus routebus route, and so is easy to access from York City Centre as well as outlying villages and towns. Approaching from the north the nearest bus stop is Alma Terrace, and from the south the nearest bus stop is Imphal Barracks. Please check timetables for each bus as some services end quite early.

Getting Inside

The door is marked on this image (click for full size):

On open evenings, look for the York Hackspace logo to the left of a blue door. The outside door should be unlocked during open evenings and events, in which case head upstairs and use the "York Hackspace" buzzer at the top of the stairs to gain access. If the outside door is locked, use the doorbell on the York Hackspace logo.

For members, information on accessing the hackspace is available.
